An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly assaulting a woman while she was holding their son.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 4:20 am Sunday at the Broadway Street residence of 29-year-old Tresor Echa. He and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation in the couple’s bedroom when she picked up her son. Echa allegedly pushed the woman onto the bed while she was holding their son. He then reportedly hit her in the face multiple times and gave her a bloody lip.

Echa then allegedly squeezed the woman’s neck with his hand. She tried to leave with their son, but he reportedly forced them back inside the apartment.  Echa then allegedly pushed the woman onto the couch with so much force it tipped over.

The woman complained of neck pain and said she felt like she couldn’t breathe when Echa’s hand was on her throat. She also reportedly suffered a scraped knee and shoulder pain from being pushed onto the couch.

Echa was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury, domestic abuse assault restricting airflow, and child endangerment. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to  up to five years in prison.
