A local transient with a history of assaulting and threatening police officers is back behind bars after allegations she assaulted another officer earlier this month.

Iowa City Police were called to Shelter House on Southgate Avenue just before 8:00 on the night of May 3rd after 40-year-old Brandy Fulton was reportedly chasing, harassing and trying to assault the protected party in a no-contact order against her. Fulton allegedly spit on an arriving officer and resisted being taken into custody. Police say she required hospitalization, but they requested a warrant for her arrest upon her release.

Fulton was cleared from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Friday afternoon and is now charged with Assault on Peace Officers, Interference With Official Acts and a No-Contact Order Violation. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.

Fulton was convicted of Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury in 2020 after she punched an Iowa City Police officer who warned her about jaywalking. She’s also awaiting trial on charges that she assaulted the subject of the aforementioned no-contact order, who was a fellow Shelter House guest, last month. She then reportedly threatened arriving police and resisted arrest.
