A rookie legislator from Iowa City has had one of his first bills signed into law.
House File 2009 was authored by Democratic Representative Adam Zabner. It requires Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources to develop recommendations to increase opportunities for Iowans with disabilities in state parks. The department will also be required to advertise those opportunities to people with disabilities via a new brochure and webpage. The bill passed both the Iowa House and Senate unanimously, and Governor Kim Reynolds signed it into law on Thursday at a special ceremony at Big Creek State Park in Polk County.
Zabner says the new law will help Iowans who have previously been excluded from outdoor recreation.
