A Coralville man faces several charges after an alleged burglary at a grocery store Thursday afternoon.
Police allege 30-year-old Jordan Mack of Holiday Road entered the HyVee on Crosspark Road through an area in the rear of the building not intended for the general public. He reportedly began gathering items from the back area before being confronted by an employee. Mack then allegedly pushed the employee and left the store without paying for the items, valued at over $95.
A North Liberty Police officer confronted Mack behind the store with the stolen items and allegedly refused to listen to commands. At one point, he reportedly pushed an officer off him, causing the officer to fall on the ground. He then allegedly got onto a bike, removed the officer’s radio, and dragged the officer on the ground. The officer suffered visible scrapes and cuts to their elbows and hands.
Mack was eventually detained and charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on all counts, Mack could be sentenced to up to 13 years in prison.
Mack was wanted by police after leaving Hope House that morning without permission.
