A transient from the Chicago area who was arrested last month for attempting to interfere with police who were carrying out an arrest in downtown Iowa City has been taken into custody again, this time for assault.

Police say 26-year-old Eric Guise was involved in the incident, which occurred Wednesday afternoon at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street.  Officers were dispatched to the complex on reports of an assault and met with the alleged victim. She stated that Guise punched her in the back of the head, causing pain, and a witness corroborated her account.

The victim also alleged that Guise threatened to kill her if she told police.

Guise was charged with simple assault and first degree harassment and could be sentenced to a maximum 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.

On April 21st, Guise was advised to leave the scene of an arrest taking place, but refused and continued to yell at the officers. He was allegedly in possession of two bags of marijuana when arrested. He faces a maximum 14 months in jail if convicted on Interference with Official Acts, Public Intoxication, and Marijuana possession charges.
