The Iowa City Fire Department, Iowa City Police Department, Iowa City Animal Services, University of Iowa Department of Public Safety, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and Johnson County Emergency Management will host two sessions of the youth camp this summer. Registration opens on Wednesday.

A session for students who will be in 7th or 8th grades in the 2024/25 school year is scheduled for July 8-9.  A session for rising high school students is scheduled for July 11-12. Both sessions will take place at Iowa City Fire Station #4, 2008 N. Dubuque Road. Participants are required to attend both days of camp.

The inclusive camp is designed for students with an interest in public safety, want to learn more about emergency services, or are just looking for a fun, hands-on camp this summer. Topics include: Basic fire department emergency operations including ropes/knots, ladders, hoses, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and firefighter turnout gear;  and Emergency Management Services  including CPR, First Aid, Ambulance Ops, Special Response Team, Crime Scene Investigation, and Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad.

The list is not all inclusive and subject to change.

A link to the registration forms can be found with this release on the City of Iowa City’s website or below. There is no fee to attend; however, attendance for each session will be capped and filled on a first come, first serve basis.
