A Cedar Rapids man who was called in for allegedly being passed out behind the wheel was arrested for OWI over the weekend.

The incident occurred on the 300 block of South Gilbert Street Saturday at approximately 10:47 pm.  Officers were dispatched on reports of a subject passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Upon arrival, 20-year-old Aiden Githens of Skylark Lane was allegedly observed attempting to drive out of a parking lot and onto South Gilbert.  Instead, he reportedly drove over a curb and onto the grass.

Githens was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and fresh drool on his mouth and shirt.  When field tests indicated impairment, Githens agreed to a PBT. No alcohol was detected in his system, and he allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day.

A drug influence evaluation reportedly determined that Githens was under the influence of a narcotic analgesic and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle. He was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
