An Iowa City man was charged after he provided someone else’s name over the course of multiple traffic stops.
It was learned this month that the man, identified as 21-year-old Dayvon Long, had been providing the false information when stopped for various traffic offenses. The dates where Long provided a different last name and other identifying information that didn’t belong to him include February 11th and 23rd, March 9th and 27th. A citation was issued to the other man’s name on February 23rd.
Through video of the incidents and recent contact with law enforcement, it was determined that Long was the driver during the traffic stops. He allegedly provided the false information knowing with full knowledge that a citation was being issued in the other man’s name.
During each of the stops, Long was not in possession of a valid driver’s license.
A warrant was issued on April 23rd, and Long has been charged with four counts of providing false ID information and one count of malicious prosecution. He faces a maximum sixteen months in jail if convicted on all charges.
