An Iowa City woman who allegedly stole merchandise from the Coralville Walmart was arrested, but not before allegedly injuring an officer.

Police say 30-year-old Adesola Miller of East Bloomington Street knowingly and intentionally stole items from the store by skip-scanning and under-ringing merchandise just after 4pm Friday. Loss prevention determined the unpaid and under-valued merchandise led to a loss to the store of over $250.

Miller was confronted by police at Coral Ridge Mall and allegedly acted like an intoxicated person.  She reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, but a PBT showed her well under the .08 percent threshold.  Miller allegedly behaved erratically, showed impaired judgement, and made excited and incoherent statements.  During the interaction, she reportedly injured an officer’s elbow.

Miller was charged with 5th degree Theft, Simulated Public Intoxication, and Interference with Official Acts causing bodily injury.  If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to a maximum 14 months in jail.
