Kalona, Riverside and Wellman firefighters had a busy two days after they responded to a pair of structure fires late this week.
The first fire was reported just before 6:00 Thursday night at 211 C Avenue in Kalona. A caller reported a fire in the chimney, prompting the Kalona, Riverside and Wellman fire departments to respond. Wellman and Riverside were eventually told to disregard, and Kalona firefighters contained the fire to the chimney. No damage estimate has been released.
Just over 12 hours later, just before 6:45 Friday morning, fire departments from Kalona, Riverside, Wellman, and Hills responded to a structure fire at 2692 540th Street SW, between Sharon Center and Kalona. No damage estimate for that fire has been released.
