The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it will issue emergency waivers to permit the nationwide sale of E15 for the 2024 summer driving season.

Iowa was one of eight Midwest states receiving approval for their request to allow year-round sales of E15 on a permanent basis. That approval was granted in February, but it would not have become effective until the summer of 2025. Friday’s action now allows the sale of E-15 this coming summer as well.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota are working on a bipartisan bill that would expand year-round ethanol sales to all of the United States, something Grassley says is overdue.

The Biden administration also issued emergency waivers for summer E15 use in 2022 and 2023.
