Multiple agencies were called to a structure fire in North Liberty Wednesday night.
According to a City of North Liberty news release, the NLFD was dispatched at 9:32 p.m. for a report of a fire alarm at 1215 Jordan Street. As crews arrived, firefighters found an activated sprinkler system and a haze of smoke inside the building. That prompted a request for additional North Liberty personnel as well as the Coralville and Solon fire departments. Once inside, firefighters found a fire in the kitchen that had been largely extinguished by the sprinkler system. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.
Crews were on the scene for less than one hour. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental with several cardboard boxes left on a stovetop.
A loss estimate is currently unavailable, although it’s likely to be minimal due to the quick response of the sprinkler system.
