An Iowa City man could spend up to two years in jail after allegedly being found with drugs and a weapon.

Officers were called to Hawk Ridge Drive Monday afternoon just before 4:30 on reports of a vehicle passenger waving a firearm around.  Officers located the vehicle with 19-year-old Demario Raysalter of East Bloomington Street standing outside.  As officers approached the vehicle, Raysalter was reportedly seen reaching into the vehicle towards an opened center console where a firearm was in plain view.

Officers went into the vehicle to retrieve the firearm and allegedly observed the odor of marijuana.  A probable cause search was initiated, and a bag of ecstasy was allegedly found right next to the firearm.

Raysalter was charged with a controlled substance violation and person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, both serious misdemeanors.
