The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released the names of the officers involved in a shooting earlier this month that killed a man and injured one other.

Police received a 911 call from 40-year old David Vanderhamm of Cedar Rapids on April 6th, who requested an officer respond to his residence.  A second 911 call came in from a male bystander, asking for a welfare check due to Vanderhamm being armed and making homicidal and suicidal statements.

Arriving officers observed a weapon in Vanderhamm’s hands, and ordered him to drop it to the ground.  Instead, he raised the weapon in the officers’ direction. Three officers opened fire at Vanderhamm, who was struck and fell to the ground. Vanderhamm died at the scene, and the bystander was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

The officers have been identified as Sgt. Alex Haas, Officer Emily Habeck and Officer Skylar Mullins. They are on paid leave while the state Department of Criminal Safety’s Special Crime Unit investigates the shooting. Officials say the officers are all cooperating in the investigation.
