A South Carolina woman was arrested early Sunday after she was allegedly carrying a weapon while under the influence.
Police say 36-year-old Krystal McDowell of Columbia South Carolina was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on the 200 block of 6th Avenue in Coralville at around 2am. She told officers that she was intoxicated and the person behind the wheel was her designated driver.
McDowell allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and was wearing bar wristbands. Due to the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, a probable cause search was conducted. A silver handgun was reportedly found under the floor mat of the passenger seat, and McDowell allegedly admitted it was hers.
A post-arrest PBT showed her BAC over .2 percent.
McDowell was charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.
