A facility dedicated to ESports is reportedly coming to Coralville.

The Gazette reports a company based in Burlington Iowa has entered a development agreement with the city to build the facility on property west of Lowe’s and north of Highway 6.

The Coralville City Council agreed to a 15-year 100 percent tax abatement in the agreement with Lucky Pete LLC.

ESports competitions are becoming more and more popular, and the facility will reportedly include an auditorium where spectators can watch Esports competitions and play video games non-competitively.

Director Luke Eustice of the Iowa City Area Sports Commission believes the facility will bring in a different tourism demographic and has the possibility of being a huge asset to Coralville.

ESports teams are already locally established at West High School, The University of Iowa, and Iowa State University. Marshalltown Community College not only has an Esports team; it also offers a one-year Esports degree.

Details on the size and configuration of the building have yet to be released. A groundbreaking date also hasn’t been set.
