Iowa City man reportedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph when arrested for driving while barred

An Iowa City man allegedly fled police at a high rate of speed was arrested for driving while barred.

33-year-old Christopher Williams of Amhurst Street was heading northbound on Highway 218 near the 88 mile marker Saturday night and reportedly passing multiple vehicles in his Dodge Durango at a high rate of speed.  Deputies used rear facing radar and clocked him going 106 miles per hour.

The deputy turned around and caught up with Williams at the 95 mile marker, where he then allegedly merged onto I80 East and sped up to 91 miles per hour.  Upon contact, Williams allegedly admitted that he was barred from driving and was not carrying the required paperwork.

Williams was charged with driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.
