Here’s a watch party that ISN’T at Carver Hawkeye Arena.

The University of Iowa Department of Physics and Astronomy and UI Sciences Library will host a partial solar eclipse viewing on the Pentacrest from 12:30-3pm.

The Daily Iowan reports today’s eclipse will be best viewed between 12:46pm and 3:16pm, with maximum totality occurring right around 2pm.

The phenomenon, where the moon moves in front of the sun, won’t occur again in the United States for another 20 years.

If you haven’t purchased eclipse glasses, the UI will provide them, and also have solar telescopes available for attendees to look through. To accommodate wheelchair users, there will be an accessible tripod telescope provided.

The last partial eclipse viewable in Iowa City occurred in 2017.
