Two residents were displaced after a porch caught fire in Iowa City early Friday morning.
A release from the city indicates the Iowa City Fire Department was called to 1523 Rochester Avenue for a porch fire just before 12:30am.
Crews arrived on scene four minutes after being dispatched and encountered one occupant attempting to put out the fire with a hose. All other occupants were out of the home. Firefighters put out the fire and it was deemed to be under control within eight minutes of arrival.
Two occupants were displaced by the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages and remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office. ICFD was assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Johnson County Ambulance, MidAmerican Energy, and the American Red Cross.
