The Gilbert Street Bridge Replacement Project is now scheduled to begin Monday, April 1, 2024.
The first phase of the project will include the closure of Court Street at Gilbert Street. This phase is anticipated to last until Monday, April 8. The Gilbert Street Bridge will remain open during the first phase.
The second phase of the project is expected to begin April 8. Court Street will reopen and the Gilbert Street Bridge will close. The Gilbert Street Bridge will remain closed during the remainder of the project.
Iowa City Transit will be impacted in two phases. The first phase will feature detours while the Gilbert Street Bridge is still open. Updated detours will be announced before the street is closed.
The project will impact the 1-South Iowa City, 4-Downtown Shuttle, and 5-Lower Muscatine routes. Three temporary bus stops will be added during this project:
- Dubuque Street at Court Street inbound
- Gilbert Street at Bowery Street inbound
- Prentiss Street at Gilbert Street outbound
Outbound detours for when the bridge is open
- 1-South Iowa City – No Detour outbound
- 4-Downtown Shuttle- No Detour outbound
- 5-Lower Muscatine- Court to Dubuque to Prentiss to Bowery (Stop 7005 closed)
Inbound detours for when the bridge is open
- 1-South Iowa City- Gilbert to Prentiss to Dubuque to Court (Stop 7003, 7004, and 7008 closed)
- 4-Downtown Shuttle- Bowery to Prentiss to Dubuque to Court (Stop 7003 and 7004 closed)
- 5-Lower Muscatine- Bowery to Prentiss to Dubuque to Court (Stop 7003 and 7004 closed)
