The site of the downtown Iowa City Dubuque Street Reconstruction Project was cleared by authorities early Friday morning after a confirmed gas line break.
The University of Iowa issued a HawkAlert just after 2:45 a.m. warning students and other local residents to avoid the area as Iowa City firefighters tended to a gas line break near the corner of Dubuque and Washington Streets. HawkAlert updates indicate the gas provider arrived at the site just before 3:15. The scene was cleared and normal activity was allowed to resume just after 3:30. The situation was listed as “resolved” just after 4.
The area near Dubuque and Washington Streets is currently closed to traffic due to the Dubuque Street Reconstruction Project, which is scheduled to be completed by late this summer or early this fall.
