A Fairfax man was arrested on OWI charges Wednesday night after a traffic stop.

According to police, 32-year-old Austin Kosmach of 78th Street ran a stop light at Jefferson and 3rd Streets in Swisher at around 9:30pm.  The deputy who initially made the stop allegedly noticed the odor of ingested alcohol coming from Kosmach, and an OWI investigation was initiated.

He reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and field sobriety tests showed measurable impairment. An initial PBT showed his BAC at .105, with a subsequent Datamaster reading of .122.

Two juvenile children and their mother were passengers in Kosmach’s Ford truck.

He was taken into custody and charged  with first offense OWI and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum three years in jail.
