The former treasurer of the Iowa City Girls Softball Association has been charged with stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the group during her tenure.

Police say 41-year-old Laura Mangrich of Coralville served as the treasurer for the association between January 2020 and January of this year and had sole access to their banking accounts.  It’s alleged that between May 18th 2020 and October 30th 2023, she withdrew over $29,500 from the accounts.

An investigation reportedly found that during that time, Mangrich withdrew over $25,400 in cash, made over $1400 in unauthorized purchases using the association’s credit card, and wrote over $2700 in unauthorized checks.

Mangrich allegedly submitted a year-end report in 2022 to the Iowa City Girls Softball Board that was falsified to hide her misappropriations.

Once the investigation was completed, a warrant was issued for Mangrich’s arrest last Thursday. She was booked at the Johnson County Jail Monday and faces first degree Theft, first degree Fraudulent Practice, and Unauthorized Use of Credit Card charges.  If convicted on all counts, Mangrich could be sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.
