A former Coralville City Council member’s husband has been found not guilty on charges that he sexually abused a girl under the age of 14.

According to the original criminal complaint, the incidents occurred between June 1st and November 19th of 2021.  63-year-old Jeffrey Dodds of 12th Avenue, who co-owned Simple Abundance Child Care with his wife, Jill Dodds, was accused of committing sexual abuse on the child when she was in the couple’s care at their home address.

Dodds was taken into custody on April 18th 2022 and charged with three counts of 2nd degree Sexual Abuse. On Monday a jury found him not guilty after almost a week of testimony. If convicted, he could have been sentenced to up to 75 years in prison.

Jill Dodds had been on the Coralville City Council since 2012. She resigned amid the charges against her husband.
