Iowa City man sentenced to 25 years in federal prison related to overdose death

An Iowa City man was sentenced this week to 25 years in federal prison for Conspiracy to Distribute a Mixture and Substance Containing a Detectable Amount of Heroin Resulting in Death and Distribution of a Mixture and Substance Containing a Detectable Amount of Heroin Resulting in Death.

Public court documents and evidence presented at trial indicated Iowa City Police Officers were dispatched to a residence related to a suspected overdose on January 23, 2021. After investigation, 43-year-old Lugene Shipp and 43-year-old Dione Dante Mobley were arrested related to the conspiracy to distribute and distribution of heroin.

Shipp and Mobley were both convicted after a trial last fall. This week, Shipp was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment and five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Mobley is scheduled to be sentenced on April 23rd.
