An Iowa City couple were arrested Thursday afternoon after being found with a loaded firearm and ecstasy in their vehicle.

33-year-old Teeorsha Payne of Prairie Du Chien Road was reportedly observed operating a vehicle with expired plates and saw an officer behind her. She reportedly attempted to hide near the Vine Tavern downtown, but was located later as she drove in the direction of the officer.

A passenger could be seen that the officer reportedly knew was 39-year-old Robert Wilson of Dubuque,  the subject of a no-contact order between himself and Payne.

A traffic stop was initiated, and a K9 alerted to narcotics in the vehicle.  Payne allegedly denied the existence of drugs in the vehicle, but two baggies of ecstasy were found in the back seat. Additionally, a loaded firearm was reportedly found in the center console. Wilson initially provided a false name and date of birth, but then allegedly admitted the baggies were his.

Payne was charged with a controlled substance violation and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. Wilson faces charges of Providing False ID, a controlled substance violation, and violation of the no-contact order.

If convicted on all counts against them, Payne could be sentenced to up to two years in jail, while Wilson could face a maximum 13 months.
