Table to Table Food Rescue recently embarked on a new initiative to capture unclaimed food through partnerships with the food transportation industry, and that relationship has already paid off in a big way.
On Friday, Table to Table received a donation of an entire semi truckload of russet potatoes, totalling about 40,000 pounds. Table to Table’s team distributed the potatoes by the pallet to the North Liberty Food Pantry, the Coralville Community Food Pantry, CommUnity Food Bank in Iowa City, and the HACAP Food Reservoir in Hiawatha.
Volunteers from United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties packed the potatoes on Friday at the Table to Table offices at Pepperwood Plaza in Iowa City.
