A transient stands accused of breaking a pair of gate arms at a downtown Iowa City parking ramp.

Iowa City Police say 35-year-old Joseph Lonier was captured on security video breaking two gate arms inside the Capitol Street parking ramp just after 7:45 Friday night. The cost to fix the two arms, including labor, is estimated at $1,000.

When confronted, Lonier allegedly admitted to breaking the arms. Police say he showed signs of intoxication and provided a breath alcohol level of .296%.

Lonier is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
