Williamsburg man charged after using debit card to make unauthorized purchases

A Williamsburg man was taken into custody after allegedly using another person’s debit card without their permission to make a series of purchases in Iowa City and Coralville earlier this month.

The arrest report indicates the purchases were made between March 4^th and 5^th by 28-year-old Dustin Cox. He withdrew money from the debit card holder’s account and placed it in his own CashApp account.  The purchases totaled $575.

Cox allegedly admitted getting the money without the cardholder’s permission and making the purchases while driving in the Iowa City/Coralville area.

Cox was charged with Unauthorized use of a Debit Card and 4^th degree Theft. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
