A Coralville man faces charges after allegedly running away from police and having meth and drug paraphernalia on his person once caught.
Police say the incident occurred just before Midnight Tuesday. 42-year-old Brian Luedtka of Holiday Road was allegedly observed riding a bicycle with no lights down Highway 965 near Coral Ridge Avenue. He reportedly ignored officer commands to stop and speak with them, and rode away. Luedtka subsequently ditched his bike and began running around a nearby pond with police giving chase.
Once Luedtka was caught, he was searched. Two small plastic bags which he said contained Methamphetamine were reportedly found in his pocket, and he also had a metal spoon with dark colored residue on it that Luedtka claimed belonged to his girlfriend. His backpack allegedly contained a pipe with dark powdery burnt residue.
Luedka was charged with Interference with Official Acts, Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd or subsequent offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to over five years in prison.
