An area transient was picked up on a warrant stemming from a reported theft from the Waterfront Drive HyVee last month.

The arrest report indicates 61-year old Brian Morris was at the store February 25th around 4:30 pm and walked over to the display case next to the checkout counter. He allegedly took a bottle of Whistle Pig whiskey valued at nearly $160 when the clerk wasn’t looking, and put it in his right coat pocket.

Morris then reportedly went to the grocery side of the store before exiting without paying.

A check of his criminal record showed two theft convictions in 2023.

A warrant was issued Monday, and Morris was arrested. He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted on the theft charge.
