A suspected car thief has been arrested after she reportedly ran out of gas in Johnson County.
Investigators responded to a disabled 2017 Mazda on northbound Highway 218 between the Riverside Drive and Highway 1 exits just after 7:30 Friday morning. 28-year-old Keonay Sampson of St. Louis was the driver and sole occupant. Sampson reportedly claimed she had owned the vehicle for three or four years, and that she had run out of gas.
A check of the vehicle’s history showed it was listed as stolen out of St. Louis and that Sampson was not the registered owner.
Sampson was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Theft. If convicted, she faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
