Iowa City Police have made an arrest involving a sexual assault reported last fall, with the suspect reportedly blaming a demon.
The incident was reported to have occurred on the afternoon of November 28th at Caring Hands & More on Mall Drive. According to the business’s website, it was founded by current Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague in 2004 to help those facing end-of-life situations stay in their own homes for as long as possible by providing employees to help them with potentially difficult tasks.
Police say on the date in question, 31-year-old David Burke of 12th Avenue in Coralville followed the alleged victim into a restroom she was tasked with cleaning and led her into a stall. The woman reportedly told Burke she was uninterested in performing sex acts, but he allegedly did so anyway against her will. Police say Burke admitted to committing the act, telling them he was told to do so by “the demon”.
Burke is charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
