An area transient was taken into custody after using a found credit card to run up charges at Iowa City stores.

Police say 61-year-old Michael Johnson was at the Kwik Star on Keokuk Street the afternoon of February 6th with another unnamed person. That person found a credit card left in the ATM at the store and gave it to Johnson.

Johnson allegedly proceeded to use the card to make a purchase at Kwik Star totaling over $130. He reportedly made additional purchases shortly thereafter at Hawkeye Liquor and Tobacco, charging over $50 and over $93 within a seven-minute span.

A warrant was issued for Johnson’s arrest, and he was taken into custody last week.  He’s been charged with unauthorized use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
