An area transient is accused of assaulting a police officer who responded to a noise complaint.

Police were called to a residence on the 1500 block of Plum Street Friday at around 8:15pm and made contact with 55-year-old David Martyn.  He was allegedly hostile with responding officers, and reportedly pushed one in the chest as he was shutting the storm door of the residence.

After Martyn was informed that he was being arrested for assault, he resisted and ignored all commands. He was eventually taken into custody by force.

A search of his person reportedly turned up a pipe for smoking cannabis.

Martyn has been charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Interference with Official Acts, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
