An Iowa City man has been arrested on a warrant stemming from a January 2023 incident where he allegedly sexually assaulted an intoxicated woman.

Police say the evening of January 14th that year, 29-year-old Derrick Miller of Wintergreen Court and a mutual friend went skiing with the woman, who during the day consumed a large amount of alcohol and had to be helped to the car by ski patrol and Miller.  They then drove the woman to an apartment, helped her inside and put in bed.

The friend left the room for a short time, and when he returned, Miller allegedly had his shirt off and was touching the woman. The friend asked Miller to leave, but he reportedly told the friend he didn’t want to go and remained on scene after the mutual friend left.

The woman told authorities she had no memory of leaving the ski resort until waking up several hours later, unclothed with what she believed was ejaculate in her hair and on her bed. A pair of men’s underwear was also allegedly found on the floor by the bed.  The woman later asked Miller what had happened, and he reportedly told her, quote, “we banged.”

Other messages sent by Miller to the victim were allegedly located that admitted that he had sex with the woman.

A warrant was issued for Miller’s arrest on February 13th of this year; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail two days later. He’s charged with 3rd degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C felony punishable by a prison term of up to ten years if convicted. He posted bond and awaits further court dates.

A no-contact order was issued by Judge Brandon Shrock.
