Iowa City man arrested on drug charges after being found smoking marijuana in vehicle

An Iowa City man who was allegedly observed by police making several Kum & Go runs and smoking marijuana in his vehicle was arrested early this morning.

34-year-old Courtney Kendrick of the Town and Campus Apartments was reportedly seen operating a Chevy Trailblazer just before 2am, leaving the complex multiple times and driving to the nearby convenience store.  After an officer allegedly saw Kendrick smoking marijuana in the vehicle, contact was made.

He was informed that he had a barred driver’s license and reportedly admitted that he had been driving.  An odor of marijuana was observed from the vehicle, and Kendrick was placed under arrest.

He was allegedly discovered with two baggies of cocaine in his hand, and a marijuana blunt was found in the vehicle.

Kendrick was charged with Driving While Barred, a Controlled Substance violation, and Marijuana Possession. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to five  years in prison.
