A registered sex offender is accused of failing to check in with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, as required.

27-year-old Anthony Kapayou was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:15 Monday night. Kapayou is on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry following a 2015 Tama County conviction for Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse against a male victim under the age of 14. By law, Kapayou is required to appear in-person at the sheriff’s office of his county of residence every three months. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Kapayou failed to check in with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office during the month of October, as scheduled.

Kapayou is charged with a Sex Offender Registry Violation. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
