Hawkeye baseball ranked in another pre-season Top 25, Brody Brecht named first-team All-America

The University of Iowa baseball team is receiving more pre-season accolades.

Baseball America ranked the Hawkeyes #20 in its pre-season poll released on Monday. Iowa is also ranked #16 in the Perfect Game preseason poll and #20 in the preseason D1baseball.com poll. The Hawkeyes are the only Big Ten team represented in the three polls.

Also on Monday, D1Baseball named Brody Brecht a first-team All-American. Brecht posted a 3.74 ERA in 17 appearances as a sophomore. The Ankeny, Iowa, native allowed just 38 hits and 28 runs over 77 innings. He allowed just nine extra base hits and a .174 batting average against. Brecht led the nation with 4.32 hits allowed per nine innings and tallied 109 strikeouts, the second most in program history.

Brecht was named a third-team All-American by the NCBWA and Perfect Game last season and a freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game in 2022.

The Hawkeyes open their season against Seton Hall on Friday, February 16th at the Shipyard Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. Their home opener is set for Tuesday, February 27th vs. Northern Illinois.
