A Los Angeles man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot up a downtown Iowa City bar.

According to police, 27-year-old Ivan Gudiel was drinking at the Field House bar and was asked to leave. He allegedly refused and had to be escorted out, but wasn’t complying.  While being walked out, Gudiel reportedly told staff he was going to get his Glock out of his car and shoot up the place.

Police spoke with Gudiel, who originally denied the threat but then said he wouldn’t deny it because he was drunk and may have said it as a joke.

Gudiel reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, had the odor of ingested alcohol, admitted to drinking and being drunk.  He refused a PBT.

Gudiel was charged with 1st degree Harassment and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
