Iowa City man sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for shots fired incident on Shamrock Place

An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.

According to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, 33-year-old Antonio Mashawn Airhart was found guilty following a three-day jury trial in June. He was sentenced on Monday.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at trial, on July 22nd of 2022 Airhart was involved in a dispute on Shamrock Place that culminated in an exchange of gunfire with another subject. During this exchange, Airhart fired at least thirteen shots, injuring the victim. Airhart had been previously convicted of felony offenses and was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.

After completing his term of imprisonment, Airhart will be required to serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
