A Coralville woman was arrested last week after allegedly striking her sons with a charging cable.

According to the arrest report, the thirteen-year-old boy ran away from home Friday night and went to his grandmother’s house following an argument with his mother. He stated that 34-year-old Jessica Alvarez of the Western Hills manufactured home community got into the altercation over foul language. The victim stated that his mom hit him with a cord several times.

Alvarez was confronted by police, and allegedly told them that she hit the boy with a charging cable because he had, quote, “squared up to her.”  The boy reportedly had injuries consistent with being struck by a cord. A nine-year-old brother was allegedly also hit, though no visible injuries were detected.

Alvarez was charged with two counts of Child Endangerment causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
