Police have arrested a second transient accused of using a stolen credit card at an Iowa City convenience store.
61-year-old Michael Johnson was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:45 Saturday night. Iowa City Police say on Christmas Day Johnson and fellow transient Ronald Givins stole a MasterCard during a residential burglary. Later that afternoon they allegedly used the card to make two purchases totaling $206.63 at the Kirkwood Avenue Conoco station. Police say the two knew the card was stolen and that they had no authorization to use it.
Both men face two charges each of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted, they each face a maximum of four years in jail.
The 37-year-old Givins faces other charges related to allegedly stealing another credit card from the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center on South Gilbert Street and using it to make thousands of dollars in purchases at the Hampton Inn on Sturgis Corner Drive, the Waterfront Hy-Vee and the Iowa City Walmart on Highway 1 West. He was also wanted for a second residential burglary.
Givins was taken into custody on December 30th.
