Chronic shoplifter accused of stealing high-end bourbon from Iowa City liquor store

A chronic shoplifter faces charges that he stole a high-end bourbon from an Iowa City liquor store.

Iowa City Police say 52-year-old Jason Roling of Sherman Drive entered Top Shelf Liquor on Highway 1 West just before 8:15 on the night of December 14th. Staff reportedly observed him conceal a bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon under his coat in or near his waistband and leave without paying. The bottle is valued at $84.99.

Police used the description provided to locate Roling a short time later. He was transported to a local hospital for an unrelated incident.

Roling…who has multiple prior theft convictions…was charged with 3rd Degree Theft upon his release. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
