An Iowa City woman was arrested on OWI charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a New Year’s Eve accident.

Police say 53-year-old Regina Agboola of Iowa Avenue was involved in a collision with another vehicle near the intersection of Lucas and College Streets just before 5pm when she reportedly fled. Investigating officers discovered one of Agboola’s license plates had fallen off at the scene, and located her at her residence.

Agboola reportedly had varying stories regarding the events surrounding the collision, but denied driving and denied even speaking with the other driver, although they had identified Agboola by her driver’s license picture and a clothing description.

Agboola allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech, unsteady balance, and had the odor of ingested alcohol. She also reportedly admitted to drinking and taking a prescription narcotic medication which she said made her too intoxicated to drive.

Agboola failed a PBT after showing measurable impairment on field tests. She was charged with OWI first offense, and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.
