Cedar Rapids Firefighters were able to extinguish a house fire Wednesday morning.
According to a release from the City, firefighters were called to a home in the 200 block of 24th St NE on at 9:30a.m following a call reporting a home on fire. Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke throughout the structure and fire in the basement.
An adult female occupant and two children were able to escape without injury. The fire was contained mostly to the basement and extinguished quickly.
At least three dogs were in the home at the time of the fire. One of the dogs was pronounced deceased. Two others were given oxygen therapy on-scene with masks specifically made for pets. No injuries were reported to firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
