An Iowa City woman was arrested this week after investigators reportedly determined that she made a false stolen vehicle report, although her significant other had allegedly led law enforcement on a pursuit with the vehicle.
32-year-old Kenia Hamilton of Eastbrook Street reportedly went to the Iowa City Police Department on East Washington Street the afternoon of November 26th to report her vehicle stolen. She was advised by officers that her significant other was on video footage driving her car, getting into a pursuit with police, and leaving drugs in the car. Hamilton allegedly stated that was not true, and insisted on filing a police report.
When evidence of the incident was shown to her, Hamilton then requested a lawyer and a stolen vehicle report. It was also reportedly discovered that Hamilton and her significant other drove to a bar together in the vehicle before the co-suspect eluded law enforcement.
A warrant was issued for Hamilton’s arrest November 30th; she was taken into custody Tuesday evening and charged with False Report of an Indictable Offense to a Public Entity and Accessory After the Fact. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
