Mercy Iowa City will have a new name as part of its sale to the University of Iowa.
University officials announced Thursday the facility will be known as “The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown” once they take over ownership. The UI purchased the facility at an October auction for $28 million.
The rebranding also extends to the original UIHC location on Hawkins Drive, which will now be called “University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center”. The UI will also be launching new logos for the facilities.
The UI and Preston Hollow Community Capital, which is Mercy’s largest bondholder, are currently in a legal dispute over the hospital’s bankruptcy proceedings.
