A Cedar Rapids teacher has been placed on administrative leave as police investigate reports of her assaulting two students.

KCRG TV reports one parent said that on Monday a teacher at Johnson STEAM Academy yanked on her son’s hoodie to get him back into class, choking him.

Another parent said the same teacher slapped her daughter in the face. The girl was told by the teacher to stack her chair but she told the teacher “no,” and walked out because her ride was there. She was then reportedly slapped by the teacher.

The two mothers filed a report with Cedar Rapids Police on Monday afternoon. They also claimed that these were not isolated incidents.

A statement from the Cedar Rapids Community School District said they were aware of the reports but being an active student and staff investigation prevented them from commenting on any details. It ended by saying, “Student safety and well-being are the utmost priority as we continue building safe and secure learning environments for all.”
