A Clinton Iowa man was taken into custody after drugs were reportedly found on his person during an interaction with Iowa City police.
Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Lower Muscatine Avenue Friday afternoon just after 5 on reports of a man acting strangely and possibly being intoxicated. Upon contact, 27-year-old Tyler Cook reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance and the odor of alcohol on his breath. He was taken into custody.
During a search incident to arrest, a quantity of a white powdery substance was allegedly located in Cook’s pocket that he identified as cocaine. Officers also found a pill that Cook identified as “perc,” or Percocet.
A check of Cook’s criminal record showed that back in 2014, he was accused of attempting to take 2 unpaid Chinese dinners from the 1st Avenue Hyvee. He was confronted by loss prevention, reportedly dropped the meals and fled. A warrant on a 5th degree Theft charge was issued in March of 2018, but Cook was not located.
He now faces two counts of second offense controlled substance and the theft charge. If convicted on all counts, Cook could be sentenced to over 4 years in jail.
